What have I been up to?

My time has been pretty filled up lately. It's better for me that way. This is what is filling it up.

• Relay for Life - I am constantly thinking of ways to make this successful. I'd love to have you join my team or donate. http://tinyurl.com/bqsole
• Watchmen opening - I have invited about 50 people to come see the film at The Veterans 24 in Tampa at midnight opening morning. If you didn't get an invite, you are not local or not on my facebook friendslist. You are still welcome, of course.
• Camping - I was supposed to go camping with the Boyscouts next week. That was cancelled yesterday, but I have a tent for next time now. No, I am not big into camping, but for my kids, I'll get into it.
• Helping Chris, AKA @dorkland on Twitter, plan for the 3/14/09 lunch meet up we are planning. (Not on Meet Up officially.) We are still looking for a good place to meet in the afternoon for a meal with 20+ people.
• Reading Codependent No More by Melody Beattie. Ross (@Rosswinn) had a hissy fit (and he knows it) and promised to CHILL if I read it.
• Reading The Angel RPG that was given to me by Chris.
• Keeping up with housecleaning. Until Brad, @tommyboyz8, moved in, I wasn't really a neat freak. Suddenly, I find myself irritable about things being messy or smelly.
• Trying to come up with something interesting to post at http://www.rentersregret.com/ . I have written several things and hated them all. I hope this week I can make something work for me.

A change to the site.

In a move that I would like to call daring and bold, I have decided to give away a copy of every book I review. I don't review the books to death and, as with the last one, I can't promise they will be brand new. I can't even promise it will be a good review. I have a huge library of books. I am given more books per month than it is possible for me to read or store, so I want to pass my books on to you.

In the future I may get new books and review them too, but for now you will be enjoying the ones I currently own. They cross all genres and are both current and good ones from the past.

I am not sure how I want to give them away. I am thinking that the best way for people to enter is to leave comments showing that they have links to me via their blog, website, or twitter. It seems to work for other folks.

By default, Meg wins if noone else wants the book, because that's what best friends are for.

Mini-Review: Open Invitation by Tiffany White

This is a romance novel. At 217 pages it's the kind of book you pick up when you have some free time and that won't take you days to read.

Open Invitation is based around two main characters. You have the very nice and seemingly prude Amanda Buttersworth and the uber suave and sexy Kyle Fox. Amanda has a rather unfortunate name. Every time I read it I think of Mrs. Butterworth's Syrup. Kyle is a movie critic for a local television station and his ratings are slipping, despite being loved and adored by every woman in his viewing area. Amanda is injected into his show as a co host and he is furious. Amanda decides to write him naughty letters to get back at him for being such a jerk and the rest of the book is spent dealing with the repercussions of the letters and their mutual unwanted attraction.

My best friend, Meg, will be thrilled to know that Amanda at no time enters into the category that we call "Too Dumb To Live." (This is the category for girls who know they are being hunted by evil forces, but decide go go on midnight strolls through dangerous parts of the city by themselves anyway.) As a matter of fact, I think that she does a fabulous job outsmarting the overconfident and cocky Kyle, no pun intended.

Open Invitation is published by Harlequin, so you know how it ends, but it's still worth reading. The book has intimate scenes. If you like the intimate details left to the imagination you might want to skip this one.

This book was published in 1989, so some of the fashion is different, but a good many of us lived through enough of it to get the point.

Open Invitation is a very pleasant read. I felt Kyle could have been the tiniest bit more vile, but was probably more endearing this way. In the typical Harlequin way, you don't get much of a background on either of the main characters or anything really except for their massive lust for each other. In that way, the book is kind of timeless since there is nothing other than the fashion to tie it to any specific time period.

If you have some time to kill and are in the mood for some fluff, Open Invitation is for you.

Whoa! What happened?

If you have been following my blog by using the URL http://www.courtneyschoenfeld.com/ you might have noticed that you have been transported to my new blog located at blogspot.com. I have wanted to have two separate blogs for a while, but until now I haven't had a real reason to do so.

I now have been nudged by fate to create and maintain this new and exciting place. I hope that the transition is smooth sailing.
